When patients search for Invisalign providers they often come across different ranking systems and ask what these ratings mean. Knowing how these rankings work will help you choose the best orthodontist for you, but we always say don’t make rankings the only thing you look at when choosing a provider.

Invisalign has a tiered recognition system to reward providers for the number of cases they complete each year. The system has six levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Diamond Plus. Each level means more cases. These rankings are updated often and show what the provider has been doing with Invisalign lately, not their whole career.

At Marrecau Orthodontics we tell patients these rankings show how much experience a provider has with Invisalign but they don’t tell the whole story about their qualifications or the quality of care they provide. A provider who just started doing Invisalign may have a lot of experience with other types of orthodontic treatment but may have a lower Invisalign grade because they don’t have as many cases right now.

The ranking system is one way to tell if a provider knows about Invisalign technology and how to use it. But there are a few other things to consider. The form of training and credentials of the provider are very important. Orthodontists have completed extra years of specialized training that focuses only on moving teeth and fixing bites, regardless of what level of Invisalign they are at. This is training that you can use for all types of orthodontic work.

Reviews from patients and results from treatments often give more useful information than rankings. Providers who deliver exceptional results and patient satisfaction may be more valuable than those who do many cases. The amount of care, communication skills and ability to organize treatment don’t always match up with.

A provider who looks at you, listens to you, and talks to you about your treatment options and shows interest in helping you achieve your orthodontic goals is the most important thing. Rankings show how much experience a provider has but talking to them in person is often a better way to figure out if they’re perfect for you.

We tell people to ask your doctors how many cases like yours they have worked on and to view pictures of their results before and after.
