When patients come to our clinic to decide between Invisalign and traditional braces, one of their biggest concerns is effectiveness. They want to know which will work better for them and if clear aligners can really match metal braces. This is a big question because if you choose a treatment that doesn’t work for you, you’ll waste time and money.

The truth is both braces and Invisalign are great ways to straighten teeth but they each work best in different situations. Knowing these differences can help you choose the best option for you. At Marrecau Orthodontics we assess each patient’s individual needs and give you the treatment that will give you the best results. Modern orthodontics offers different types of braces, including metal, ceramic, and clear options. Each type of braces provides a comfortable and precise way to align teeth while fitting the patient’s needs and goals.

For decades traditional braces have been used to fix almost every orthodontic condition. Braces are great for severe crowding, complex bite problems, big tooth rotations and situations that require very precise vertical movement. The wires and brackets allow us to move teeth very precisely in all directions. Braces are used for compound and compound and complex sentences. Brackets are used for all directions.

Invisalign has come a long way and can now fix many problems that used to need traditional braces. Mild to severe crowding, spacing concerns and many bite problems respond well to clear aligner treatment. The inclusion of attachments, little tooth colored bumps placed on certain teeth, has expanded what Invisalign can do. These attachments make the aligners hold on better and the aligners move in more complicated ways than older versions of the device. Invisalign is used for all directions.
Invisalign doesn’t work well when you need a lot of vertical mobility, a lot of rotation or complicated bite corrections. While we can correct many bite problems with aligners, some severe cases still need the precise control that braces provide. Braces may work better if your teeth need to be pulled down or pushed up a lot or if a tooth needs to turn more than 20 degrees.

One thing that affects how well Invisalign works is how well the patient follows instructions. You need to wear the aligners for at least 20 to 22 hours a day for the treatment to work as planned. If you often forget to put them back in after meals or keep them out for a long time, your teeth won’t move as planned. Braces don’t have this issue because they’re set in place and working 24/7. In Parkland, Invisalign works great for people who are diligent and driven. Braces take away the worry about compliance for people who might have trouble being consistent.

In most cases the treatment time is the same for both options. It usually takes 12 to 18 months for mild to moderate cases, whether you choose Invisalign or braces. Either way complicated cases take longer. For the most part the idea that braces work faster than Invisalign isn’t true. Both treatments move teeth slowly and safely. If you rush the process you could hurt your teeth and roots.

The skill and experience of your orthodontist also has a big impact on how well either procedure works. An experienced orthodontist who treats many cases with both braces and Invisalign will get better results than someone who rarely does orthodontic treatment. That’s why it’s generally recommended to see a specialist instead of a general dentist. Surgical orthodontics, also called orthognathic surgery, corrects severe jaw or bite issues that braces alone cannot fix. This treatment enhances both function and appearance, creating long-term improvements in your smile and facial balance.

Another thing to consider is the outcome. When used correctly and for the right reasons both treatments can give you a beautiful smile. The method you choose is less important than how well you plan and execute the treatment. Braces and Invisalign both work to give you a great smile for life if you wear your retainer as directed.

We’ll assess your individual situation and recommend the best treatment for you during your appointment at our Parkland office. You can choose between the two based on your lifestyle because some cases can be treated with either one. In other cases one treatment is clearly better than the other. Your satisfaction and oral health are our top priority so we always tell you which one will work best.
